Residents gather at Cardigan Guildhall to protest against wind turbine

A group of residents protesting against the proposed wind turbine at Oernant farm held an awareness event over the weekend outside of the Guildhall Cardigan.

Beverley Harrison-Wood said the purpose of the event was to improve awareness amongst residents and businesses about the proposal by Awel Deg to build a 67m high wind turbine overlooking the skyline north of Cardigan.

Spokesperson Rachel Tay said: “Now the Ferwig turbine proposal is dead, Awel Deg are proposing a much more prominent version overlooking Cardigan. Furthermore, once one gets approval then this will open the door to further developments in this wholly inappropriate location in the Teifi Valley area.

“The proposed turbine is less than 400m from the nearest residences, will have an adverse visual impact in an area of significant scientific interest, audible noise nuisance, and a potential negative impact on tourism – a key income earner across a range of businesses in and around Cardigan. With little or no consultations from Awel Deg this divisive proposal, feeding electricity to the national grid, with dubious undefined benefits to the local community should be strongly opposed.

” People not only do not realise that this monstrosity is being proposed but also how dominant a structure over Cardigan it will be. It is imperative that Green Energy alternatives, including community ones, are sited in appropriate locations”
