The Stephens County commissioners approved the Emergency Disaster Declaration to get funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency extension Gov. Mary Fallin announced last week.

David McCarley, District 1 Commissioner, said it was to make sure Stephens County could receive part of the funding.

“This was, to my understanding, to make sure we were entitled to help from FEMA,” he said. “District 1 didn’t have very much damage but Districts 3 and 4 did from Tropical Storm Bill.”

There was also interesting news for District 1, for Stephens County and parts of Grady County.

NextEra Energy Resources are working on acquiring land so they can start to develop a wind turbine electrical generation facility.

“They are still in the process of leasing land,” said McCarley. “We don’t know exactly where they will be, but it’s in Districts 1, some of 2 and part of Grady County.”

In other news, the board approved a bid:

From Casco, of Oklahoma City, for Bunker Gear for the Corum Volunteer Fire Department. The cost of the bid is unknown at this time and is pending on the equipment needs of the department.
From Seal Masters, of Davis, Oklahoma, for materials and labor for approximately two-and-a-half miles of overlay for District 2.

The cost is $78 per ton, including labor, for an estimated 3,614 tons, totaling around $282,000.
