Villagers stage protest to stop wind power project in western Turkey

A fight erupted at a meeting on wind energy power plants which are under construction in Karaburum town of İzmir. The villagers stopped the meeting with officials from company tasked with the project and held a protest with environmentalists.

Out of 166 turbine pillars constriction of 47 pillars were completed and electricity production was launched in the wind power plant. Due to its damage to the environment, villagers and environmentalists filed lawsuit to cancellation of the project. Although the court decided to cancellation of license of the company, officials tried to finish the rest of the project and attempted to hold a meeting with the villagers.

Arriving at the meeting place, a large group of villagers and environmentalists opened placards and shouted slogans protesting the project. Some deputies were also at the scene to support the villagers.
