Cape Wind foes launch ad campaign

Opponents of the Cape Wind energy project are launching a radio ad campaign this summer that will tout setbacks for the project and call for the termination of a lease “to defeat the project once and for all.”

After two major utilities cancelled power purchase agreements with Cape Wind, project officials said they’d continue to pursue their plans even as state officials openly speculated about Cape Wind’s potential demise.

In announcing its ad campaign yesterday, the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound said Cape Wind was seeking to renew state approval of its transmission facilities and continues to hold a 28-year lease to 46 square miles of Nantucket Sound. Ads asserting “the tide is finally turning” against the project will run on six Cape Cod stations and one station on Nantucket.
