SCITUATE – Tech Environmental submitted a report to the board of health detailing the sound-monitoring process and associated results of the its wind compliance sound monitoring study.

The study evaluated noise from the turbine under four operating scenarios with different turbine production levels and wind speeds and directions.

Four samplings to determine if the turbine complied with state noise regulations were conducted between August 2013 and last month.

Monitoring was done at three locations on Gilson Road and at one each on Moreland Road and the Driftway with the turbine running and shut off.

The maximum increase recorded in one of the four tests was nine decibels. The turbine would have been in violation at 10 decibels or above.

The board of health agreed to have an acoustical study performed after residents complained that noise and flicker from the 400-foot turbine located off the Driftway was responsible for headaches, dizziness, nausea, and sleep deprivation, among other negative health affects, they have experienced since the turbine went online in the spring of 2012.
