Meaford plans to send one councillor to sit in on a meeting of a working group that’s looking for ways to regulate the operation of wind farms.

Council asked Councillor Jaden Calvert to sit in on a meeting of the Multi-Municipality Wind Turbine Working Group. Calvert will then report to council on whether he feels Meaford should join the group.

Representatives from 13 towns in Grey, Bruce and Perth counties formed the MMWT working group. The purpose of the group is to try to persuade Queens Park to make changes in the Green Energy Act.

Jaden Calvert’s appointment followed a discussion by council on a resolution presented by Deputy Mayor Harley Greenfield.

According to Greenfield, “The working group meets once a month to share information on ways councils can ensure wind turbines set up in their municipalities are run safely.”

Greenfield added, “Some members of the working group doubt they can keep wind turbines out of their municipality. But they might at least be able to get a say in making sure they are run properly and safely.”
