Global warming threat outweighs wind farm noise, inquiry hears

The prospect of runaway global warming outweighs the noise impact that wind turbines may have on “a minority” of local residents, a Senate inquiry has heard.

Although evidence suggests wind turbines are not completely free of harm to residents living near them, noise can be managed like aircraft or road traffic noise, the Public Health Association said. “We argue that wind turbines can make an important contribution to human health and wellbeing which offsets the noise disturbance effects on a minority of people,” Dr Peter Tait from the association told the inquiry on Tuesday.
