(Saugeen Shores) –

A dubious anniversary to some people was realized on March 25th.

It was the second anniversary of the start up of the what was known as the CAW wind turbine in Gobles Grove.

Saugeen Turbine Operation Policy – or STOP, headed by former mayoralty candidate Greg Schmalz, was before Saugeen Shores Committee of the Whole, to urge councillors to continue the fight against what is now known as the UNIFOR wind turbine.

Schmalz says any lack of constant activity against the turbines could be argued by wind developers as non-opposition.

He says this particular turbine has resulted in over 250 official complaints being filed with the Ministry of Environment and with no action to date, apathy tends to set in among residents.

Schmalz suggests the turbine has affected the town’s bottom line was well with over a million-dollars in lost assessment in just a few homes around the turbine and that means they pay less taxes.

Councillor Mike Myatt agrees with Schmalz and has called for a staff report on what options are available to the town.

Schmalz says he’s glad the town has sympathy for the problem.

He tells councillors there are creative potential solutions but there has to be a municipal will to begin the process.
