Plea to new MPs to join the fight against Tetney wind turbines

Wind turbine protesters are aiming to turnaround a decision to build eight more 115-metre turbines at Tetney.

They will make a complaint to the Planning Inspectorate after ASC Renewables was given the go-ahead for the large turbines at Bishopsthorpe Farm, Tetney, last month.

Victoria Atkins, the newly-elected Conservative MP for Louth and Horncastle, will be lobbied to represent the wishes of her new constituents in Central Government and try to get the turbine decision overturned.

To make their voices heard, scores gathered at Tetney Village Hall on Saturday. Two turbines are already operating at Tetney’s Newton Marsh Anglian Water depot.

They stood still for about 14 months after they were erected more than two years ago.

The leader of Marsh Windfarm Action Group, Melvin Grosvenor, said the impact of eight more turbines on the landscape would be disastrous for the neighbouring Thorpe Park holiday centre in Humberston.

He warned more renewables companies had their sights set on more windfarms on the western side of The Lincolnshire Wolds.

Mr Grosvenor said it was “a tragedy” that Lincolnshire’s landscape was being blighted in the same way as much of Yorkshire with onshore wind farms.

He said in the UK there are 4,853 onshore compared to 1,184 offshore.

The spokesman said: “If this turbine scheme gets built I worry how long Thorpe Park will remain.

“Holidaymakers come here for an unspoilt view and tranquility, but it will be the windfarm which will predominate.”

But he added: “The battle is not over yet. By working together we can make a difference.”

He urged campaigners to write to MPs Victoria Atkins and Cleethorpes MP Martin Vickers.

Sally Lamming, owner of Tetney Lock Angling Club site which houses a number of mobile homes, said: “I run a caravan site and people have expressed their opinion that they do not like to see them.”

The following day campaigners held a protest walk from Humberston Yacht Club to Tetney.

A large inflatable hot air balloon blimp was floated to the height of the planned turbines to give visitors the chance to see how they will dominate the skyline.

At the protest walk yesterday, North Thoresby resident John Norman said he was anxious about the proposal for four more turbines at Damwells Farm near the village. Seven more are planned for Fulstow by Energie Kontor.
