Development application for Palmer Wind Farm blows in

Information associated with the Palmer Wind Farm development application has been made available to the public two weeks ahead of the formal notification period.

The documents were released for community inspection yesterday after the Mid Murray Council obtained permission from the developer, Trustpower Australia Holdings, in recent discussions.

The council’s acting development and environmental services director Geoff Parsons said it was only fair that the public was granted extra time to allow them to sort through the large volume of information.

“We negotiated with the applicant to get a longer display period because of the extent of the documents,” he said.

“We are trying to give as much information to the community as we can.”

The information can be viewed and collected from the Mid Murray Council offices in Mannum, Cambrai and Morgan or downloaded from the council’s website.

However, submissions can not be made until the formal public consultation process begins on May 6.

Mr Parsons said during that period, any person was entitled to lodge a submission on the development.

“We would encourage any interested person to make a submission, whether they are for the development or against the development,” he said.

“All of the submissions that are received will be forwarded to the applicant and they will have the chance to respond to those.

“Submissions can only be lodged in that formal consultation period though.”

Some of the issues already raised by residents include impact of noise and traffic during construction, the possible threat to biodiversity in the area and the risks involved in the event of a fire.

Local residents can also pick up a DVD from each of the Mid Murray Council offices free of charge, or can obtain a hard copy for $30.
