Upper Hunter residents group concerned over wind farm developments

An Upper Hunter residents group is worried planning and health policies favour wind farm developments, despite fears of potentially adverse affects.

The company Pamada is planning the big Kyoto Energy Park, near Scone.

It includes 34 wind turbines, along with a solar plant and associated substations.

But some residents are concerned.

A Senate inquiry is currently focussing on wind turbines.

The group, Upper Hunter Landscape Guardians has used its submission to raise concerns about medical officials who give guidance to government consent authorities.

It says it is worried the National Health and Medical research Council has created bias in favour of the wind industry, despite health fears.

It also says the planning process in NSW appears to have heavily favoured wind farms to a point where rural communities have little faith in the independence of the process.

The group says community consultation undertaken by developers has been abysmal, ignoring their concerns.

Pamada says it recognises the value in community consultation and participation especially during the early stages of the project.
