New Barrington wind power project subject of meeting

A public meeting will be held in Port Clyde on April 23 to discuss about a plan to develop a small wind farm on the Blanche Road.

Bruce Thompson, of the Blue Sky Electricity Cooperative, is hoping to put six small wind turbines at a rural site along the road.

At the meeting, Thompson said any questions about the project will be answered. He’s also hoping to pick up some investors for the COMFIT (Community Feed In Tariff) project.

Unlike the large wind turbines recently erected in Atwoods Brook, the 50 Kw turbines Blue Sky intends on erecting are much smaller and would generate enough electricity to power about 90 homes.

The turbines are the same size as the one the Municipality of Barrington is erecting near its construction debris landfill site at Goose Lake.

Thompson said the nearest homes to the planned project are about 450 metres away.

The meeting will be held at the Port Clyde Fire Hall. It starts at 7 p.m.
