Plans for wind turbine in Stafford

Staffordshire Newsletter | April 14, 2015 | www.staffordshirenewsletter.co.uk

A wind turbine could be installed near the Newport Road in Stafford.

The planning application was made by family farming partnership A J Busby and Son, with the desire to reduce their carbon footprint. The soft fruit farmers are based at Billington Farm on the A518, the site of the new turbine.

Stafford Borough Council said there will be no noise impact from the proposed two-blade 32-metre high turbine due to its proximity to the M6.

While the average house in the UK uses 45000 kWh of electricity per annum, the turbine would generate approximately 275,000 kWh per annum.

Electricity generated and not used by the farm would be fed directly to the National Grid and used locally to reduce the amount drawn from power stations.

Prior to submission of their application Billington Farm held an Open Day at Derrington Village Hall. The event was publicised in the Newsletter and attended by 25 people.

Billington Farm have already installed a Biomass Boiler, along with solar panels on their Pack House and main farm buildings.
