Wind turbine plan is rejected by planners

A giant turbine which was set to be built in Markfield has been rejected by councillors.

Members of the Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council planning committee, which met on Tuesday night at the Hinckley Hub, went with the officer’s recommendation to refuse planning permission for the erection of the single turbine.

The plans, put in to the council by Brenda Featherstone, included the installation of the huge turbine – of up to 76 metres in hub height and up to 100 metres in tip height – as well as an access track, turbine foundations, a substation, crane hardstanding and underground cabling.

Councillors agreed that the turbine would create generate a negative and harmful visual impact which outweighed any benefit of renewable energy.
