Opposition to turbine appeal for land near Ellesmere

An appeal against a decision to refuse permission for a huge wind turbine in the Shropshire countryside has been opposed again by councillors.

Members of Ellesmere Town Council insisted “nothing has changed” over plans to build a 327ft (99.7 metre) turbine in nearby Tetchill, despite developers Seven Sisters launching an appeal against Shropshire Council’s refusal to grant consent.

Councillor Ian Ward, speaking at a meeting of Ellesmere Town Council on Wednesday, said: “We have already objected to this so we just want to reiterate what we said before.

“Nothing has changed. We are still opposed to the plans.”

The proposal had attracted 200 objections from the public amid fears it would distract motorists and harm nearby heritage buildings. The plans were refused by planning officers at Shropshire Council in November and at the time the decision was greeted with relief.

The decision will be made by the Planning Inspectorate at a future date.
