Councillor reveals relief after Orby Marsh wind farm appeal rejected

A Lincolnshire county councillor is happy that an appeal to build a wind farm in Orby Marsh has been rejected, ending 13 years of frustration.

The proposed wind farm would have been erected on a site owned by a Mark Caudwell, and would have housed nine-turbines.

Many residents were against the plans however, it appears any lingering fears of the plans going through are over after the secretary of state, Eric Pickles, dismissed an appeal to have the work completed.

Colin Davie, County Councillor for Ingoldmells Rural and Executive Member for Environment and Planning was delighted to hear the news.

He said: “The county council warmly welcomes the recommendation of the Planning Inspector and the decision by the Secretary of State to dismiss this appeal. This brings an end to 13 years of torment for the villages and residents surrounding the appeal site and the suffering inflicted upon these communities by one aggressive landowner who wished to enforce his will upon them.

“We, as a council, vigorously defended these communities and this landscape from this unwarranted attack from the very first application. I am, as a resident of this community, delighted at today’s decision”

“In particular, I want to pay tribute to the outgoing MP, Sir Peter Tapsell, for his constant and steadfast support for these communities. He is an exemplar of service to the people of this area.”

The news comes after plans to build another wind turbine in West Lindsey were foiled earlier this week.

An appeal had been lodged over the planed site in Kingerby by Brant Clayton of the Happy Days Farming Company, but it was thrown out by Eric Pickles, secretary of state for local government.

On hearing the decision, Sir Edward Leigh, Gainsborough MP, said: “I am delighted to hear that permission for the wind turbine at Kingerby has been refused,” the Conservative MP of over thirty years’ standing said.

“The appeal on the original application has been turned down by my colleague the Secretary of State, Eric Pickles, and I understand that West Lindsey District Council have very wisely determined that a modified application is ‘deemed withdrawn’ for failing to overcome previous objections.”

“These ominous blades would have swung 165 feet in the air and loomed over our countryside,” the MP continued. “The Government has been right to back local decision-making so that our district councils aren’t overwhelmed by appeals.”
