What a pretty picture Jack Clarke paints in his March 26 My View, “What we can learn from Cape Wind saga” – pastels of various shades of wonderful realizations that the little birdies would survive and the wind farm would produce tons of electricity.
He even includes figures to try to convince us that if it were built, the cleanliness of this gift to birds, fish, fishermen, and all of humanity would change our lives – that last part was one of the few things I believe. It sure would change our electricity bills.
The real point that was totally ignored has to do with promises. A Cape Wind spokesman told us his monstrosities would be either cheaper than the status quo or, as a little more reality set in, competitive with current rates. The rate presented upon final analysis was twice the current rate for the spokesman’s neighborhood’s juice. The pretty pastels turn to black and white like the figures on a ledger sheet and the picture fades to gray.
