Iberdrola Renewables to give funds to wildlife protection groups

Iberdrola Renewables of Portland is seeking applicants for its 2015 Wildlife Protection Program grants.

The wind power company’s “Legacy of Caring” campaign provides grants to groups that provide avian rehabilitation, education and scientific understanding of birds of prey.

Last year, the company gave funds to the Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota; the Tehachapi Wildlife and Rehabilitation Center in Kern County, Calif.; Blue Mountain Wildlife in Pendleton; Squam Lakes Natural Science Center in Holderness, N.H.; and the California Raptor Center, a branch of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.

In October 2008, Iberdrola Renewables became the first U.S. wind power company to voluntarily adopt an avian and bat protection policy, which is part of the planning for the company’s U.S. wind farms, mostly to reduce the deaths of birds and bats by wind turbine operations.

Iberdrola Renewables LLC of Portland is the U.S. renewable energy division of Iberdrola SA, a Spanish renewable energy company. Iberdrola Renewables and has more than $10 billion of equipment providing more than 6,000 megawatts of wind and solar generation.
