Officers say plan for turbines near Brandon should be refused

Plans to build five wind turbines, each of a height of 415 feet near the village of Brandon, will go before 
district councillors on Tuesday.

The plan has been submitted by RWE which says the Temple Hill wind farm could produce enough clean energy to meet the needs of approximately 7,000 average homes each year and inject an inward investment of approximately £4.6 million into Lincolnshire. RWE has been looking at the site since 2010.

But officers at South Kesteven District Council say the plan should be refused because it would harm the landscape and hurt the local economy.

Villagers and opponents say the wind farm would have an adverse impact on the rural area. Villagers attended a site visit by councillors on Wednesday together with banners and a blimp rady to fly to show how high the turbines would reach if approved.

Local resident Vikki Hoole said: “No-one has been able to demonstrate why this area is appropriate for a large scale wind farm. Hopefully councillors will see that the local community is united and very strongly opposed.”

Opposition group ReVOLT spokesman Paul Miley said: “Contrary to accusations of NIMBYism, this community fully understands and is committed to appropriate renewable energy development – this does not include a massive, poorly-sited industrial wind farm.”
