Massachusetts AG Healey backs renewable energy efforts

By The Associated Press | March 12, 2015 |

BOSTON – State Attorney General Maura Healey says she wants to expand the state’s use of solar power and other renewable energy sources.

Healey said Thursday that her office is already working with a task force to encourage the growth of the solar energy industry until it is price competitive with traditional sources of energy.

Healey wants to guarantee that electric distribution companies modernize the grid to meet current energy demands while also making it easier to integrate solar and other renewable energy sources.

Healey says she’s also open to technologies like net metering, which allows homeowners and others to sell back to utility companies any excess energy gathered by their own solar panels.

Healey made the comments in a speech to the Northeast Energy and Commerce Association’s annual conference in Westborough.
