Anti–wind turbine group hires lawyer to see county residents are protected

Huntington County Concerned Citizens, a group seeking changes in the county’s wind ordinance, has hired an attorney “to ensure that our own residents are protected,” HCCC President John Shuttleworth announced in a news release.

HCCC says it will be represented by Stephen Snyder, senior law partner with the Syracuse-based Snyder Morgan LLP. Snyder has more than 35 years of experience including planning, zoning and land use law and recently worked to increase setbacks for and ultimately ban industrial wind turbines in Marshall County.

Earlier this year, HCCC proposed an amendment to the Huntington County wind ordinance seeking that the turbines be set back at least 3,960 feet, or three-fourths of a mile, from homes. The Huntington County Plan Commission has recommended a 1,000-foot setback.

The Huntington County Commissioners, who must ultimately approve the wind ordinance, have set aside time today, Monday, March 9, to hear public comments on the proposed ordinance. The session begins at 1 p.m. in the GAR Room on the second floor of the Huntington County Courthouse.
