The Lindahl Wind Farm proposed for north of Tioga will get no recommendation from the city commission.
Commissioners were divided on the issue but voted 3-2 to make no recommendation on a proposal to put up meteorological towers in the area where Tradewind Energy wants to develop a windfarm.
The towers would provide more data in planning for the location of about 75 proposed turbines in the area.
The Williams County Planning and Zoning Commission hearing on the permit was met with significant opposition from area residents. As a result, the commission asked Tioga commissioners to weigh in.
While Tioga Mayor Drake McClelland said he sympathizes with the residents opposing the project, he also sees the need for alternative energy.
Since the city lacks any jurisdiction over the area, he said he didn’t really think the weight of the decision should lie with the city.
