Windfarm firm appeals

The developers behind rejected plans for a £36m windfarm in the hills above Greenock have lodged an appeal against the refusal.

Inverclyde Council last year threw out 2020 Renewables’ plans to build eight 110-metre tall turbines on land to the north and east of Corlic Hill.

Concern over the development’s possible impact on air traffic radar was one of the key factors. However, bosses at 2020 have now gone to the Scottish Government in a bid to overturn the decision.

Alasdair MacLead, the company’s development director, said: “We have appealed as we strongly believe that our proposed site is the best location for a windfarm in Inverclyde.

“It has been carefully designed to minimise impacts and will bring significant benefits to the local community.

“Through the appeal process, we will be able to test the council’s reasons for refusal and provide justification for the windfarm going ahead.”

The developers have requested a hearing to look at the case and an appointed planning expert will decide the best method of determination before reaching a conclusion.
