Plans for second Heath and Reach turbine are shelved

Leighton Buzzard Observer | 10 February 2015 | www.leightonbuzzardonline.co.uk

The possibility of a second wind turbine being built close to the Doubles Arches wind turbine at Heath and Reach disintegrated after developers Infinite Renewables Ltd shelved the idea.

Working alongside Monier Redland Ltd – who run the Vandyke plant – the idea had been for a 1.5MW turbine to provide energy to the plant.

The plant would have received the energy at a discount from the turbine – which at a maximum height of 75m, would have been a little over half the height of the Double Arches turbine.

But yesterday, Infinite Renewables director Andrew Crossman confirmed they wouldn’t be going ahead with the plans, due to the proximity of the East of Leighton development. Mr Crossman said: “Because there are now plans for houses to be built around that area, it would be in conflict with those.”

Only last summer, a screening opinion was submitted by Infinite Renewables to Central Beds, enquiring whether an Environmental Impact Assessment would be necessary.

Monier Redland Ltd gave no comment before the LBO went to press.
