Residents leafleted over wind turbine

Hucknall Dispatch | 09 February 2015 | www.hucknalldispatch.co.uk

A councillor concerned that plans for a 100m high wind turbine in Newstead and Annesley Park have not been fully publicised, has carried out a leaflet drop.

Ashfield district councillor Don Davis says residents in Newstead have been fully informed, but people in neighbouring Annesley and Felley – who will be in the direct sight of the turbine – have not.

Gedling Borough Council (GBC) have conceded they failed to consult with residents and this week pledged to send out 288 letters to people who were missed. Coun Davis said: “I have requested that GBC restart the clock on the wind turbine application as I believe there has been a serious lack of of consultation with residents in Ashfield directly effected. I understand that residents of Newstead village have had full consultation by way of a letter to each property. To my knowledge Gedling have on placed statutory notices up in Ashfield. I have only two residents aware of this close to the lamppost where the notice was placed.”

As well as leafleting Mosley Road and all the roads on the former Annesley Pit site, coun Davis knocked on every door and found that ‘from about 300 residents only two were aware of the plans, most were very shocked and unaware of the plans’.

Stephen Bishop, of Owston Road, in Annesley, said: “Whilst rumour abounds there has been no formal consultation or formal information shared on such matters as to the erection of a wind turbine.”

If greenlit, the turbine, which has a hub height of 61.5m and three 77m blades, will be erected on a former colliery site.

Redpath Energy Ltd says: “This planning application is a significant element of the strategic plan of Rural Community Action Nottinghamshire (RCAN) in that it would help secure a financial future for Newstead & Annesley Country Park by providing both electricity and revenue for the Park.”
