Hornsea Project Two offshore wind zone submitted to planning

Grimsby Telegraph | February 03, 2015 | www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk

The second project within the huge Hornsea offshore wind zone has been submitted to the Planning Inspectorate.

SMart Wind, a joint venture between Mainstream Renewable Power and Siemens Financial Services, has made the application on behalf of Optimus Wind Ltd and Breesea Ltd.

It is for up to 360 turbines, and will bring power to land at Tetney Lock, with cabling skirting North East Lincolnshire to the onshore substation at North Killingholme.

The scheme uses the same works as those that formed part of project one, granted Government consent in December.

With the Humber ports the closest to the build-out, the area is seen as reaping major benefits from the development.

In a statement, SMart Wind said: Project Two, the second offshore wind farm SMart Wind is developing in the Hornsea Zone, will be up to 360 turbines and is located approximately 89km off the Yorkshire coast. When complete, it will deliver up to 1800MW of electricity and bring low carbon power to the UK and the opportunity for economic growth in the Humber region.”

The Planning Inspectorate will have until February 27 to decide whether to accept the application, and it will then consider its recommendation to the Secretary of State for Energy. A final decision is anticipated by mid-2016.
