RAWLINS, Wyoming – The Bureau of Land Management has approved parts of a plan to erect 1,000 wind turbines in Carbon County.

Power Company of Wyoming is proposing the $5 billion Chokecherry and Sierra Madre wind farm.

The BLM has been studying the impacts of the proposal.

The agency announced Friday that one of its two studies on the first phase of the project found no problems with some road and rail facilities and a rock quarry that would accompany the project.

The second study is still being done. It is looking at other aspects, including a road network and the installation of turbines.

The Power Company of Wyoming is a subsidiary of Denver-based Anschutz Corp.
