Dixfield selectmen extend wind project moratorium

DIXFIELD – The Board of Selectmen voted Monday evening to extend the moratorium on wind energy projects for another six months, Town Manager Carlo Puiia said Wednesday.

The extension gives the town time to finish revising the Wind Energy Facility Ordinance.

The ordinance was approved in 2012 and the revisions began in January 2013. A six-month moratorium was approved by voters on Aug. 21, 2014.

Voters rejected a revised draft of the ordinance by a 553-567 vote on Nov. 4, 2014.

As a result, selectmen voted 4-1 on Nov. 25, 2014, to send the Planning Board’s draft ordinance and two amendments by selectmen to a June referendum vote. However, the six-month moratorium approved in 2014 expires Feb. 2, Puiia said.

During Monday’s meeting, Puiia clarified that once the town approves a final copy of the Wind Energy Facility Ordinance, the moratorium will expire.

In other business, Puiia said the town is accepting nominations for Citizen of the Year and Employee of the Year awards.

“If anybody has someone in mind to nominate for either award, they should write down the name of the person and why they believe they should win, and drop it off at the Town Office,” Puiia said.

Selectmen will also decide in the coming months who to dedicate the town report to, and who will receive the Boston Post Cane, given to the town’s oldest resident, Puiia said.
