Co Tyrone turbine catastrophe report due soon

News Letter | 28 January 2015 | www.newsletter.co.uk

A probe into what caused a wind turbine to collapse is expected to be finished next week.

The turbine, near Fintona in Co Tyrone, buckled and fell to the ground on January 2, scattering parts of itself across the landscape.

It had cost around £2m and stood about 80 metres tall (263ft), and the manufacturer Nordex said it was the first time it had ever seen such an incident.

A spokeswoman for Screggagh wind farm, where it had been based, said that they are hopeful the firm will produce its report next week, after which they will make a decision on whether to restart the remaining seven turbines.

Nordex itself could not be reached on Wednesday.
