Amazon Web Services (AWS) has renamed a 150MW project currently under development in Benton County, Indiana, as the Amazon Web Services Wind Farm.
AWS has signed a 13-year purchase agreement with developer Pattern Energy for the previously named Fowler Ridge.
The project will produce 500GWh of electricity to power AWS’ Cloud data centres.
Project owner, Pattern, expects construction at the project in Indiana, northern US, in April. Completion is due in early 2016.
AWS, owned by the online retailer Amazon, has pledged to power its entire infrastructure using renewable energy.
Wind energy has become increasingly popular source of power for data centres.
Facebook, Microsoft and most recently Google have all signed power purchase agreements with projects in the US and Europe.
