Trump and windfarm team face courtroom battle over Aberdeen turbines plan

A courtroom battle between Donald Trump and a windfarm team is to get under way tomorrow.

The tycoon’s lawyers are bidding to sink the £230 million European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) planned for Aberdeen Bay.

The Court of Session will hear an appeal after rejecting Mr Trump’s legal challenge against the 11-turbine wind test centre last February.

Mr Trump’s team had claimed the 600ft turbines would ruin the view from his Balmedie golf course and that the Scottish Government had been biased in approving the scheme because of its support for renewable energy.

But in a written ruling, Lord Doherty said he was satisfied “the impacts on the tourism industry both in Aberdeenshire and in Scotland” and “the economic impact on the golf resort at the Menie Estate” had been taken into account.

AREG and Vattenfall, the shareholders of Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm Ltd, are behind the EOWDC, which is earmarked for completion by late 2017. The appeal is to be heard at the Inner Court of Session tomorrow and Thursday.
