Black Oak Wind Farm passes final environmental review

The proposed Black Oak Wind Farm has met all requirements under the State Environmental Quality Review process, according to the Enfield Town Board.
The board found last week no significant adverse impacts associated with the project, and outlined mitigation measures to protect residents and the environment, according to a news release issued Friday.
The state’s environmental review was the last major component of the project’s permitting review process.
The wind farm, located on Black Oak Road in Enfield, is a proposed 11.9 megawatt wind project and is New York State’s first “community-owned” energy facility, according to the company. That means that any state resident is eligible to be an investor in the project.
The wind farm entered into an agreement with Cornell University to sell the electricity it generates during its first ten years of operation.
The Enfield Town Board is responsible for reviewing all necessary studies and analyses conducted by the developer of the project.
The project is estimated to be completed by the end of this year.
