HSA in contact with wind farm company over downed blade

The Health and Safety Authority of Ireland is engaged in ‘ongoing’ talks with the company which owns the turbine in Tursillagh from which a blade apparently sheared off last week.

Fears were sparked last week over the proximity of wind turbines to homes when locals discovered a blade on the ground over 100 metres from its parent turbine in Tursillagh in the Stacks Mountains.

It appeared the blade had simply sheared off the hub sometime over the previous weekend.

The HSA informed The Kerryman this week that it is engaged in ‘ongoing’ talks with the company behind the crippled turbine, but as of yet has not been able to definitively establish what caused the blade to come off the hub.

It appearead the loss of the blade was not as the result of maintenance works given the condition of the downed blade more than 100m from its parent turbine, however.
