Wolverine Power Supply Cooperative has agreed to buy 114MW of electricity generated by the Deerfield Wind Energy project in Huron County, Michigan, US.
The 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Renewable Energy Systems Americas (RES Americas) includes related renewable energy credits in the Thumb of Michigan.
RES Americas developed and will build the Deerfield project, which is situated on about 20,000 acres in the townships of Huron, Bloomfield, Dwight, and Lincoln.
The project is expected to reach commercial operation by December 2016.
RES Americas chief executive officer Glen Davis said: “Wolverine’s commitment to purchase the Deerfield Wind Energy project’s electrical output will bring investment and jobs to the state and local community that have supported us through the development cycle.”
Wolverine president and CEO Eric Baker said: “This PPA not only positions Wolverine and its members to meet Michigan’s Renewable Portfolio Standard requirement of 10 percent renewable power supply by 2015, it also further diversifies Wolverine’s overall energy portfolio.”
RES Americas has more than 7GW of utility-scale renewable energy and energy storage projects and built more than 534 miles of transmissions lines.
