A wind turbine that is a part of the NedPower Mount Storm wind project caught fire on Sunday afternoon.
Responding to the 10:04 a.m. blaze were Mount Storm and Maysville Volunteer Fire Departments, according to the Grant County 911 center. The firefighters cleared the scene at 1 p.m.
Another wind turbine fire in Mount Storm occurred in 2008 during routine maintenance. That fire started in the nacelle, which is a cover that houses all of the generating components.
NedPower Mount Storm, whose construction began in 2006, consists of 132 wind turbines along 12 miles of the Allegheny Front. The project generates up to 264 megawatts of electricity for the mid-Atlantic power grid.
