Court gives Clifton wind farm developer greenlight, development to begin ‘immediately’

The Maine Supreme Court has given the green-light for development of a wind farm in Clifton.

Peter and Julie Beckford, who live adjacent to Pisgah Mountain, the proposed building site, sought to appeal the town’s decision to grant the wind farm developer a permit.

The ruling says the Beckfords did not file for appeal in time, meaning the court has no jurisdiction in the matter.

Wind farm developer Paul Fuller started planning the project in 2010 but has been hindered by opponents.

He says construction will start immediately, starting with the foundation, electrical systems and other infrastructures.

He says there’s a year lead-time on turbines, so those won’t go up until 2016.
