Developers just don’t listen to community concerns

Carrick Gazette | 12 December 2014 | www.carricktoday.co.uk

Bill Steven, the Chair of Save Straiton for Scotland has said Willowind Energy still are not listening to the communities they are developing in.

Steven was reacting to the news that Willowind have submitted an addendum to their plans for wind turbines at Linfairn.

Following consultationwith the communities, Willowind already ditched six turbines in the Northern leg earlier this year and have now submitted an addendum for a 17 turbine site with a 54.4 MW capacity.

Bill Steven said: “The most disappointing thing is that Mr Atwal of Willowind still isn’t listening to the communities.

“This had the largest scale objections ever seen in Scotland and the size and scale is one of the most inappropriate ever in the country.

“However, they don’t listen to the concerns raised in South and East Ayrshire council’s capacity for windfarms and just plough ahead regardless.”

Suki Atwal of Willowind said: “ I believe the proposed scheme is one that addresses the main concerns of the local communities and the statutory consultees.

“Linfairn Wind Farm would provide a real boost to the local economy and to local community schemes and we will be guided by our discussions with the community on how best that can be done.”

It is hoped a public information day covering the addendum submission and revised layout will be held soon.
