Oswestry protest against Wales and Shropshire pylon plan

About 300 people have protested against plans to build a line of pylons across mid Wales and north Shropshire.
The 19-mile (30km) route will connect the Brechfa Forest West Wind Farm in Carmarthenshire with the National Grid.
Campaigners from Montgomeryshire joined others from Shropshire at a rally in Oswestry, calling for more of the link to be buried underground.
National Grid has previously said burying cables could add as much as £1bn to the project.
Consultation on the proposed route is due to end in February.
About eight miles (13km) of the connection is expected to run underground in the Meifod Valley and National Grid plans to use low-level pylons for much of the rest of the route.
Clive Knowles, director of the British Ironworks Centre, who organised the protest, said they would “blight” the countryside.
The proposed route takes the pylons through the centre’s sculpture park near Oswestry and Mr Knowles said it would harm tourism in the area.
