Objections lodged as plan for wind turbines is made

Forfar Dispatch | 05 Ddecember 2014 | www.forfardispatch.co.uk

Angus Glen residents have confirmed their opposition to plans recently submitted to build 14 wind turbines at Saddlehill.

Wind Prospects, a wind farm developer, has submitted plans to site the 199 metre turbines in an area sometimes called Saddlehill and sometimes Black Hill.

The development lies immediately north east of Drumderg wind farm, and protestors believe the new turbines would essentially be an extension to that farm.

There was a meeting of the local community earlier this year, attended by 97 people.

All but one of the attendees was opposed to the development, with one undecided.

A committee was then formed.

Representative Mike Morris said: “There are about 900 tourist beds in the area and tourism brings revenue and employment to the glen. Three surveys over the past few years have shown increasing effect of wind farms on tourism with the latest by MCoS 2014 showing about 25 per cent of people ‘unlikely to return’ because of wind farms. How many businesses can survive a 25 per cent cut in trade?”

Rory Carmichael, Project Manager, said: “The planning application was submitted to both Angus and Perth & Kinross Councils – the consultation period for the Angus application is now open, and the Perth & Kinross application will follow shortly as soon as it is validated. A newsletter will be sent to all residents at this time.

“This period provides an opportunity for the local community to comment on the project. A survey of residents in the area earlier this year found that there is a balanced number of people for and against the proposal. We encourage residents to review the environmental statement online or at a local venue to fully understand the proposal and contact the council directly with their comments. Details are available at www.saddlehillwindfarm.co.uk”

Objections to the plans with can be lodged with either Angus or Perth & Kinross Councils.
