Wind farm seeks environmental approval

The Chronicle Herald | December 4, 2014 | thechronicleherald.ca

A two-turbine wind farm in Porters Lake, Halifax County, is seeking provincial environmental approval.

Watts Wind Energy Inc. of Dartmouth filed its Porters Lake project Thursday with the Environment Department. The wind farm is located on Crown land between Highway 7 and Highway 107 in an area that was heavily damaged by a 2008 forest fire.

If approved, construction of the 3.2-megawatt project is slated to begin in early 2015. The wind farm would be operational late in the year.

Environment Minister Randy Delorey has until Feb. 2 to rule on the proposed project.
