Concern over 74m turbine planned for Nantgaredig

Carmarthen Journal | December 02, 2014 | www.carmarthenjournal.co.uk

Residents of Nantgaredig and the Towy Valley have been given an insight into the potential impact of the 74m wind turbine proposed at the Cefn Abbey area.

The image shows the turbine overlooking Nantgaredig village, and is part of the landscape and visual impact assessment which has recently been added to the Carmarthenshire e- planning website, which is now at consultation stage of planning application.

Photographs, with the turbine added, give the impact of the development on Nantgaredig, the National Botanic Gardens of Wales & the surrounding area.

Resident David Marriott said: “The concern is for the protection of the natural beauty, amenity and economic value of living and working in the Towy Valley which is a Special Landscape Area.

“The Tywi Valley is of vital economic value to the economy of Carmarthenshire for its natural beauty in attracting tourism and visitors to the National Botanic Gardens of Wales and the numerous existing businesses that this area’s natural beauty supports.

“It is felt that the industrialising impact of Celt 1, a 74m wind turbine, the first of its type proposed in this area, in such a prominent position overlooking Nantgaredig village, would be detrimental to the area, & that this is an inappropriate development for this area.

“Concern has been raised that if this is called Celt 1 by the developers, how many more turbines are planned for the Tywi Valley if this planning application is accepted?”

The proposed developer is Carmarthenshire Energy, an Industrial & Provident Society for community benefit.

The planning application is being supported by Seren Energy Ltd as consultants, amd Carmarthenshire Energy have stated that Seren Energy Ltd will administer the project through planning, construction and running for the project life of 20 years.

More information including the landscape and visual impact assessment, is available on the Carmarthenshire Council’s e-planning website. The application no is W/30859.
