Protesters against plans for two new wind turbines in Pencarreg stood their ground during a exhibition displaying information on the proposed plans.
Llanybydder’s Primary School held an exhibition on Wednesday, November 19, organised by renewable energy company Energiekontor.
Villages Against Supersize Turbines (Vast) are urging members of the public to fight against these plans with a tag line stating: “You can stop two wind turbines as tall as a 27-storey skyscraper on the edge of Rhydcymerau”.
Scott Hamilton, project manager with EnergieKontor UK Ltd, said: “We were very encouraged by the strong turnout and pleased that it gave us an excellent opportunity to engage with a wide-ranging group of people and to hear their thoughts on the project, both positive and negative.
“We hope the event has been useful to the community in answering their questions about the development.”
Energiekontor is urging anyone who could not attend the event to view the project plans at www.mynyddpencarreg windturbines.com
Councillor Ieuan Davies, who is also on the planning committee for the proposed wind turbines, said: “I think that having this exhibition is a good thing.
“People can now see exactly what is planning to be built.
“It gives the people who are interested in the matter, a chance to talk to the organisers and ask the questions they want answering.”
There are several points that Vast have noted on their website, as to why they are against these wind turbines. The include, no reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, environmental damage, threat to wildlife and livestock and invasive noise.
One observer who attended the exhibition said: “The print on the information boards was very small, and I have heard a few people say it was too hard to read anything.
“I had only heard about the exhibition today from a friend, as I hadn’t seen it advertised anywhere else.”
Vast will hold a meeting in the next few weeks, and the turbine action group has organised a meeting at The Angel bistro in Llandeilo on Wednesday, November 26, at 7.30pm.
