Western Md. wind farm developer seeks zoning exception

A Western Maryland wind-farm development company is asking state regulators for a third construction delay while it seeks an exception to local land-use regulations.

The filing by Dan’s Mountain Wind Force LLC was made public Monday by the Maryland Public Service Commission.

The company said it is seeking a special exception to Allegany County zoning rules that have blocked its proposed project atop Dan’s Mountain.
The company said it would meet the requirements partly by reducing the number of turbines from 29 to 19.

It proposes a two-year extension of the start of construction to Dec. 31, 2016.

The company is owned by Laurel Renewable Partners of Greensburg, Pa.
Chicago-based Exelon Corp. has agreed to help fund and purchase the project if it meets certain development milestones, the filing said.
