Anti-wind farm family react to London hearings

Shawn Drennan says he has no idea when he’ll get a decision on the Divisional Court hearing this week in London on the legality of wind farm projects in Huron County.

Drennan and his wife Trish are among four families opposing the wind farms on constitutional ground.

Drennan says that’s a change from past arguments. In the past, opposition to wind energy projects has been restricted to having to prove health impacts. But Drennan explains the argument in Divisional Court has to be based on an alleged error in law and Drennan is arguing he was not given his rights at the Environmental Review Tribunal in that the test they had to meet was unreasonable.

Drennan and the other families are asking for a new hearing or for the judges to re-write the test they had to meet.

“[The judges] asked a lot of questions, which is always good to get the whole feeling for a court case” Drenan tells CKNX, “I feel like we were heard so, we’ll see what the outcome is.”

Drennan adds regardless of which side wins this round, the decision will likely be appealed and he’s prepared for that. There was some speculation that the decision could come before January.
