Wind turbine at Eastern Kings Wind Farm no longer working

CBC News | Nov 21, 2014 | www.cbc.ca

An investigation is underway to figure out why one of the turbines at the Eastern Kings Wind Farm stopped working and who’s going to pay for the repairs.

The turbines are owned by the province through the P.E.I. Energy Corporation and this incident has raised the question of whether the province or the manufacturer of the turbine will foot the repair bill.

“We have insurance of course, for both [the] cost of replacement and for loss of business, so we have that in place or otherwise it will be the manufacturer,” said Energy Minister Wes Sheridan.

No one was working at the wind farm when the turbine was damaged, so the cause of the break is a mystery.

Vestas Wind Systems, the manufacturer of the turbine, is sending a replacement blade from Colorado.

If all goes according to plan, the new blade could be installed the first week of December.

Sheridan says it’s in the province’s best interest to get the turbine back up and running as soon as possible.
