Hearings dealing with concerns from county residents

The Livingston County Zoning Board of Appeals public hearings are moving to Fairbury’s Walton Center, beginning Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday’s hearing, which, like Monday’s hearing, was held at the Pontiac Township High School auditorium and was filled with testimony from Invenergy employees. There were also experts in the fields of many concerns that residents held, including land use and noise from the wind turbines in the area of the proposed Pleasant Ridge Wind Farm.

Michael Hankard, acoustical consultant for Hankard Environmental, explained the kind of noise analyses he did for the California Ridge Wind Energy Project, which is in Vermilion County. He said it is only one of the many projects in which he’s worked.

Hankard also explained low-frequency sounds and infrasounds, as well as low-noise blades that can be used for the project. He said that all noise levels were expected to be at or below the Environmental Protection Agency standards.

After testimony from the applicant, residents were allowed to ask questions pertaining only to testimony given, which continued into Wednesday’s hearing.

The hearings continue Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Fairbury’s Walton Center, located at 100 W. Locust St.
