Study won’t affect turbine appeals

Despite a lack of evidence connecting wind turbine noise with poor health, anti-wind advocates are pressing ahead with legal action.

Tom Melady of Huron East Against Turbines (HEAT) says several citizens groups opposed to turbine construction will move ahead with an appeal under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Health Canada published a long-awaited study last week, citing no adverse health effects to those living within hearing distance of wind turbine noise.

The appeal is headed by lawyer Julian Falconer, who argues the rights of Ontario residents were infringed upon under the province’s Green Energy Act.

Melady says the Health Canada study is not a real reflection of what is happening in rural Ontario, as reported last week by Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hazel Lynn.

Dr. Lynn alleges the study leaves numerous questions unanswered, including how it was conducted.

According to Melady, the questions asked to the over 1,200 respondents living near turbines would not have yielded the proper results.

Falconer’s appeal of several area wind farms has court dates set for next week.
