Action group gear up for turbine plans at Allington and Foston

Grantham Journal | 08 November 2014 | www.granthamjournal.co.uk

Action group Belvoir Locals Oppose Turbines (BLOT) say they will attend both a public consultation on a wind farm near Allington and the planning meeting to decide on a turbine at Foston.

Whirlwind Renewables who plan to build six turbines at Thacksons Well Farm to the west of Sewstern Lane, are presenting details of the scheme to the public at an exhibition in Allington village hall on Friday, November 14, from 3pm to 8pm and on Saturday, November 15, from 11am to 4pm.

Each turbine would have a maximum height to blade tip of 110m, and together could generate enough electricity to supply 9,500 homes.

BLOT also intend to be at the public consultation to see the plans and conduct a straw poll of opinion.

Meanwhile members of the action group will attend the next meeting of South Kesteven District Council’s development control committee on Tuesday, where the first scheduled application to be decided on is the installation of a turbine measuring 86.5m from ground to tip at Top Farm on Back Lane, Foston.

The proposed turbine has been reduced from 99m ground to tip since the original application, which is being put forward by Independent Energy Projects Ltd on behalf of applicant Baggaley Farms.

The planners say the turbine will have a generating capacity of up to 800 kilowatts of electricity.

BLOT added that they will provide further comment on both proposals following the consultation and planning meeting respectively.
