A wind turbine blade separated and crashed to the ground on the South Mountain in western Wyoming County on Sunday.
“Early Sunday, morning, a wind turbine blade failed on one of the wind turbines at the Mehoopany wind farm. There were no injuries associated with the event and no damage to any property in the vicinity of the wind farm,” said Jason Ryan, BP Wind Energy spokesman.
The wind turbine has been shut down and an internal review of the incident is underway, Ryan said.
“At this stage it is too early to make any comment as to the reason why the blade failed,” he said.
The Mehoopany Wind Park is owned by BP and Sempra U.S. Gas & Power. BP is the operator. The 88-turbine park opened in January 2013.
