Wind turbine numbers cut

The developer behind plans for a wind farm at Nocton Fen has decided to cut the number of proposed wind turbines following feedback from local communities.
Vattenfall plans now to have 20 turbines on the site, down from 23.
A spokesman for the firm said the decision comes in light of ‘extensive summer engagement with communities’ and ‘advice from technical specialists’.
The reduction means that turbines will be moved further away from properties to the south of the site and the River Witham. It also means that the area taken up by the turbines will be cut by a third.
The height of the tips – previously reported as 150m – is proposed to be 149.5m.
Graham Davey, project manager, said: “The decision to cut turbine numbers reduces the effect of the scheme considerably. We will now complete some initial design work and then discuss a draft layout with local people and technical specialists in the coming weeks.
“Keeping the tip heights at 149.5m means we can capture a lot more energy on average every year than smaller turbines and minimise the cost of electricity to the consumer. More low carbon generation in the UK leads to less carbon emissions and helps the UK meet its climate change targets.”
If built with 3MW machines, the project would see annual community investment of about £300,000 over 25 years, the firm also stated.
